BIO-SUISSE – Human, Animal, and Nature in Balance

Food labeled with the bud is sustainably produced. Bud-certified farms now provide people with a good livelihood without compromising the opportunities of future generations. They balance the interests of humans, animals, and nature. To ensure this balance is maintained in the long term, independent entities annually monitor the entire value chain. Bio Suisse also supports this process with various sustainability development projects.

FAIR TRADE – Fair Trade

Fair trade refers to a regulated trade in which producers receive a minimum price for their products set by a Fair Trade organization. This is intended to provide producers with a higher and more reliable income than in conventional trade, even during times of lower market prices. Determining a fair price is a controversial subject in economic ethics. Additionally, this trade format aims to establish long-term ‘partnership’ relationships between traders and producers. Moreover, production in this system strives to adhere to international and organization-prescribed environmental and social standards.

ISO 22000 – Global Standard for Food Safety Management Systems

ISO 22000 allows for more flexibility compared to trade association standards, which may have very specific requirements (such as pertaining to individual fixtures). In contrast, ISO 22000 is applicable to other companies involved in the food chain, such as pest control operators, additive manufacturers, and others. Being an ISO standard, it is globally applicable, while the demands of trade associations tend to have more regional significance. All standards and regulations, in addition to the legally required HACCP concept (see Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004), also demand a quality management system similar to ISO 9001.
